The day after Christmas, what’s next? Let’s read what Dr. Luke records in chapter 3, verses 1 – 20. What stands out as a highlight? How might this apply to your life?
Let’s ZOOM INTO Vs. 2–3 – “during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, God’s word came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3 He went into all the vicinity of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
John fulfilled the purpose for which he was born; the angel prophesied before John’s birth that He would be filled with the Holy Spirit and turn many in Israel to the Lord and go before the Messiah to turn hearts and make ready for the hearts (See Luke 1: 15 – 17).
PAUSE & REFLECT: Just as God had a purpose for John’s life, He has a plan for your life. What might God’s purpose include?
PRAYER PROMPT: Heavenly Father, I humbly acknowledge that You are a Soveriegn God who has good plans for my life. Just as You planned for John the Baptist to preach the good news and call people to repentance, I believe You have good plans for my life. As you point out wrong attitudes and actions, I desire to repent from ___________________________ & I place my faith in Jesus who is fills me with Your Spirit. May Your fire fill me with good passions that will honor You as a witness of Your love, for I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

- It certainly includes “repentance from sin” (John’s message) & faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Are there any actions or attitudes God is calling you to turn away from?
- It most surely includes faith in Jesus “who baptizes you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” V.16.
