Judges Devotional - June 29

A Story of Redemption

Read: Ruth 3–4

Key Verse: Ruth 4:14 – “The women said to Naomi: ‘Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel!’”

Devotional Thought:
The final chapters of Ruth bring a powerful close not only to her story but to the entire season of the Judges. While the book of Judges ends in despair—with moral collapse and chaos—Ruth ends in hope, restoration, and new beginnings. God was not absent during the days when “everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” He was quietly, faithfully writing a story of redemption. In Ruth 3, we see an act of bold faith as Ruth humbly places herself at the feet of Boaz, asking him to be her kinsman-redeemer—a family protector and restorer. Boaz responds with grace, honor, and generosity. In chapter 4, Boaz secures her redemption legally and publicly, and soon, Ruth becomes the great-grandmother of King David. What began as a story of loss ends as a legacy of life. What looked like famine and sorrow became a foundation for the coming Messiah. God used the faithfulness of one foreign woman to change the course of history. This is what God does—He brings beauty out of brokenness, purpose out of pain, and redemption from ruin. Ruth’s story reminds us that no matter how dark our circumstances, God is always working behind the scenes for His glory and our good.

Reflection Questions:
  • How does Ruth’s story offer hope in the midst of a broken world?
  • What does the role of Boaz as a redeemer reveal about God's heart for restoring the broken?
  • Where in your life do you need to trust that God is still writing a redemptive story?

Prayer Response:
Redeeming God, Thank You for the hope that Ruth’s story brings. Even in my hardest seasons, You are still working for my good and for Your glory. Today, I place my trust in You for redemption in ____________________________. Help me to wait patiently, walk faithfully, and believe that You will not leave me without hope. Just as You brought restoration to Naomi and Ruth, I believe You can bring healing and purpose to my story too.
I pray humbly in Jesus’ name, Amen.
