Becoming SALT Devotional - July 12

Offering Our Lives with the Salt of Sacrifice

Read: Ezekiel 43 Context & Explanation:

In Ezekiel 43, the prophet describes a vision of God's glory returning to the new temple in Jerusalem. This chapter renews Israel’s hope after exile and emphasizes worship according to God's holiness. Verse 24 mentions the use of salt in sacrificial offerings, symbolizing purity, covenant loyalty, and enduring dedication to God. These sacrifices foreshadow the ultimate offering of Jesus, calling believers to present themselves wholly and purely in worship.

Key Verse: Ezekiel 43:24

Inductive Questions:
  • Why was salt required in offerings to God? (Salt symbolized purity, preservation, and permanence. In the Old Testament, it was added to grain offerings to reflect the unchanging, covenantal nature of God’s relationship with His people. Just as salt kept food from spoiling, it reminded the worshiper that their devotion to God should be sincere, lasting, and set apart for His purposes.)
  • How can you offer your life in purity and devotion today? (Example: You can start your day by surrendering your plans to God in prayer, choosing to honor Him with your time, resisting temptation in a moment of conflict, or setting aside time to serve someone in need. Offering your life in purity and devotion is a daily act of consecration—saying, "Lord, this moment, this decision, this conversation belongs to You.")
  • What needs to be laid down before the Lord?

Prayer:
Lord, I give You all that I am. Purify my motives and set my heart on Your altar.

Reflection:
A part of my life I surrender to God today is ___________. I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
