The Greatest Commandment

Read: Mark 12

Key Verse: Mark 12:30

Inductive Questions:
  • Why does Jesus say this is the greatest commandment? Think about it - Jesus says this is the greatest commandment because loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength is the foundation of all other commands. It centers our lives on God's worth and aligns every part of who we are—affections, thoughts, and actions—with His will. Everything else flows from this love.
  • What does it look like to love God with your whole heart, soul, mind, and strength? What does a disciple of Jesus look like? A true disciple is someone who continually centers their affections, thoughts, and actions on loving God fully. They follow Jesus in obedience, prioritize time with Him, serve others with humility, and live out His teachings in daily life—not just in church but in every relationship and responsibility.
  • Are there any areas where you struggle to give God your full devotion? (Examples: Maybe you find it hard to prioritize time in prayer, or perhaps you're holding onto a habit or relationship that competes for your loyalty. It could be resisting a call to serve, or struggling to trust God fully with your finances or future.)

Prayer: Lord, I desire to love You completely—with all that I am. Reveal any divided affections and renew my commitment to You.

Reflection: Today I will love God more fully by ___________. I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
