Strength for Devotion

Read: Isaiah 40

Key Verse: Isaiah 40:31

Context & Explanation:
Isaiah 40 begins the second half of the book of Isaiah, often called the “Book of Comfort.” After many chapters of warning and judgment, God now speaks words of hope and restoration to His people. Written to comfort exiled Israelites, this chapter reassures them of God’s greatness, faithfulness, and tender care. It contrasts the frailty of humanity with the everlasting strength of God—culminating in the promise that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength (v. 31). This timeless message invites all who are weary to look up and trust in the Lord’s sustaining power.

Inductive Questions:
  • Why do we need God’s strength to live in devotion to Him? (Because loving the Lord—our first core value—is not a one-time emotion but a daily decision. True devotion to God involves heart, soul, mind, and strength, and we often face distractions, discouragement, or spiritual fatigue that make wholehearted love difficult. God's strength empowers us to stay faithful, passionate, and consistent in our love for Him.)
  • How can waiting on the Lord renew your strength?
  • What is one area where you need His strength today?

Prayer: Lord, strengthen me as I wait on You. Help me serve and love You with endurance.

Reflection: I will depend on God’s strength today as I ___________. I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
