Love in Action

Read: 1 John 3

Key Verse: 1 John 3:18 – “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

Context & Explanation:
1 John was written by the Apostle John to encourage believers to walk in truth and love. In chapter 3, John contrasts the children of God with the children of the devil—emphasizing that love is the mark of genuine discipleship. He teaches that real love is not just spoken but demonstrated through action, reflecting the sacrificial love of Jesus.

Inductive Questions:
  • How does love go beyond words and require action?
  • What does it mean to love in truth?
  • What is a tangible way you can serve someone in love today? (Examples: cooking a meal for someone recovering from surgery, writing an encouraging note to a discouraged friend, helping a single parent with errands, or sitting with someone who feels alone.)

Prayer: Father, let my love be more than words—let it be action. Open my eyes to the needs of those around me and give me a heart that serves.

Reflection: I will put love into action today by ___________. I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
