Christmas Devotional Day 8 - December 2

Let’s Read & reflect on Luke chapter 2, verses 21 – 38.

A BIT OF BACKGROUND – Jesus is newborn infant; Joseph and Mary bring Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem for the priest to perform circumcision as was the Jewish custom. On this very day, Mary and Joseph with Jesus in their arms encounter Simeon and Anna.

Reflect on this encounter and imagine how Simeon & Anna might answer the question – “What does Christmas mean to you?”

ZOOM INTO Verses 29 -32. Simeon shares that Christmas (Messiah’s coming) means he could die in peace because he had encountered the Lord’s salvation.

How peaceful are you about the reality of death? Can you die in peace, knowing that Jesus is your Savior, the Messiah who has defeated death for you?

Write a prayer championing Jesus as the only hope and source for eternal life in heaven.

Pray for someone who is struggling with their health and who could benefit from you sharing of Jesus’ love which gives assurance in the face of death. Ask the Spirit to guide you to share ‘the reason of the hope within you.’

Let’s prayerfully seek to become like Anna in Vs. 38 who “began to thank God and to speak about Him to all…”

Let’s pray for THE SARASOTA CHRISTMAS PARADE, as our children and students will be on a float to be a witness of Jesus’ love and light.
