One Word Devotional Day 5 - December 30

Let’s Read and reflect on the Gospel of Luke chapter 10.

Place yourself in the text in verses 38 – 42. Imagine yourself as guest in the home of Mary and Martha, and overhearing Martha complaining to Jesus about Mary’s un-involvement in the hospitality to guests. Hear Jesus speak these words –
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary., Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus kindly corrected Martha & commended Mary for choosing the “One Thing necessary” – i.e. sitting at His feet in devotion.

As you reflect on this account,
Who are you most like – ‘worried Martha’ or worshipping Mary?’
Who would you like to me more like?

The Spirit of God has revealed to you the One Word for the new year of 2024. Respond with your heart in prayer to the Lord to make sitting at Jesus’ feet a regular priority.

“Heavenly Father, as You have revealed to me the One Word of _______________ for the new year. I pray that you would call me often from the busyness and care of the world around me to sit at Your feet and allow you to teach me new insights as I follow Your Son, for I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
