Parenting IRL Devotional Day 1 - January 3

The book of Proverbs is primarily the writings of a “Father-King” Solomon to his “prince-son.” Realizing that “all” of God’s Word “is inspired by God and profitable” (2 Timothy 3: 16), let’s read this book through the perspective that our Father-King in heaven is writing to instruct our hearts as His children in the way of wisdom.

Let’s begin by reading Proverbs chapter 1 prayerfully. Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you? (Write thoughts down in a journal.)

Let’s focus on Verse 5  – “Let a wise person listen and increase learning, and let a discerning person obtain guidance.” Seek to become a ‘wise person’ in the Lord’s eyes filled with His Word, insight, and discretion. How? … by cultivating a ‘listening heart’ to the Lord.

Join young Samuel in a prayer to listen – “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3: 10). Listen to Him concerning important areas of your life; write down in a journal any impressions of His voice.

PARENTING IRL (in real life) CHALLENGE:  Prayerfully seek for all of your ‘speaking to your children’ to flow from your ‘listening to the Lord.’
