Parenting IRL Devo Day 3 - January 5

Let’s prayerfully read Proverbs chapter 3. Based on today’s reading, what is one thing God is saying to you? (Promise, warning of sin, hope-filled outcome…) Write insights in a journal.

Let’s focus on Verse 32b – “the LORD is a friend to the upright.” The word for ‘friend’ is the Hebrew word, ‘sod,’ which means He reveals Himself to you as His child. Recall the words of Jesus to His disciples, “I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made know to you everything I have heard from my Father.” (John 15: 15).

What does the Lord calling you “His friend” do to your heart? In prayer, celebrate Your identity as One loved by God and one whom He is intimate.

Parenting IRL (in real life) Challenge: God is revealing His heart to us as His children is a model for us revealing our heart to our children. Intentionally seek to ‘know’ your child &  ‘be known’ by your child. One way to practically do this is by sharing what you are learning from God’s Word.
