Parenting IRL Devo Day 13 - January 15

Let’s read Proverbs chapter 13 using the H.E.A.R. method. As you read the passage, do the following:
H- highlight the verses that stand out to you.
E – explain the verse(s) in your own words of what God is saying to you.
A – apply the verse to your life. (What would it look like to live this truth in your
life?)
R – respond in prayer by writing your heart to God.

Each of these four steps cultivates a heart-attitude to hear God speak.

Let’s focus on V. 12 – “Hope delayed makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” Can you remember when someone made a promise and took a long time to fulfill it? You experienced this text as your “heart was sick.”  As a parent, make fun and exciting vacation plans to go to places as a family you have never been before and to do things you have never done before. The promises you make and keep with your family will be “a tree of life” that will cause your family to flourish.

Parenting IRL challenge – Discuss hopeful, fun-filled vacation plans for the new year as a family. Allow each family member to share their dreams and ideas of great time together. Then do your best to make it happen.
