Let’s walk with Jesus as He enters Jerusalem by reading the evangelist Matthew chapter 21, verses 1 – 11. What is unique in the evangelist Matthew perspective? Notice he mentions Old Testament prophesy fulfilled – see Isaiah 62: 11; Zechariah 9: 9
A bit of background: Matthew is a Hebrew and He is writing to a Jewish audience pointing out that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament Scripture; He is the Messiah. What is the significance of Jesus riding on a donkey? Why did He not ride on a strong war horse?
The first time Jesus came to earth was in humility – born in a manger, rejected by man, riding on a lowly donkey, dying on a cruel cross & buried in a borrowed tomb. But the next time Jesus comes to earth will be in great glory and power. When Jesus returns, what kind of horse will He ride? See Revelation 19:11 – “Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and makes war.”
As you anticipate Jesus’ future return with power and glory, What does this do to your heart?
“Lord Jesus, as I think of Your soon return with great power and glory, my heart is filled with ___________.
I love Your appearing. Amen!”
