Let’s read Mark’s Gospel chapter 13 using the H.E.A.R. method. As you read the passage, do the following:
H- highlight the verses that stand out to you.
E – explain the verse(s) in your own words of what God is saying to you.
A – apply the verse to your life. (What would it look like to live this truth in your
life?)
R – respond in prayer by writing your heart to God.
Let’s zoom in to verses 1 & 2.
A bit of background - Late in the afternoon Jesus and the disciples start to leave the temple area for the Mount of Olives. As they exit, he reveals that Jerusalem's temple will soon be destroyed.
How did the disciples view the buildings in Jerusalem?
What was Jesus’ prediction of the outcome of the temple? What was Jesus teaching His disciples?
Reflect on 1 John 2: 17 – “And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.”
Pray – “Lord, I recognize all the beautiful buildings I see every day in Sarasota will one day pass away. Help me to discern between the temporary and eternal. I desire to live for Your unshakable kingdom, in Jesus’ name, Amen!”
