Let’s read John’s Gospel chapter 16 using the H.E.A.R. method. As you read the passage, do the following:
H- highlight the verses that stand out to you.
E – explain the verse(s) in your own words of what God is saying to you.
A – apply the verse to your life. (What would it look like to live this truth in your
life?)
R – respond in prayer by writing your heart to God.
Jesus spoke these words to His disciples while walking to the Garden of Gethsemane (at the foot of the Mount of Olives).
Put yourself in the text; what encouragement would your receive as Jesus speaks these words?
Let’s zoom into V.20 – “Truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice. You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy.” When would the disciples weep and mourn? How would their sorrow be turned to joy?
Express your heart to Jesus for the sorrow and weeping He endured for us on the cross for our salvation. Celebrate the unending joy we experience realizing that Jesus is alive forevermore!
