Final Week Devo Day 46 - March 21

Let’s continue reading John chapter 19, verses 25 – 30 using the H.E.A.R. method. As you read the passage, do the following:
H- highlight the verses that stand out to you.
E – explain the verse(s) in your own words of what God is saying to you.
A – apply the verse to your life. (What would it look like to live this truth in your
life?)
R – respond in prayer by writing your heart to God.

Each of these four steps cultivates a heart-attitude to hear God speak.

Notice Jesus spoke 3 more times from the cross. What did He speak and to whom did He speak?

Picture yourself there on that day: Some stare at him in amazement. Others such as Roman soldiers, members of the Sanhedrin (chief priests, scribes, elders) and even the two thieves also being crucified, mock him.
Family and friends, at a distance, watch Jesus suffer on the cross. These include his mother Mary, her sister, Mary Magdalene and the apostle John.

“Woman, here is your son.” “Here is your mother.” Notice that Jesus cares for His mother even while he was dying. Jesus tells his mother, Mary, to now consider the apostle John her son and tells John to take care of his mother Mary.

“I’m thirsty.” Meditate on the eternal reality that Jesus experienced thirst so you may never thirst again. As a result of His death and resurrection, He offers freely the gift of living water which flows from deep within. – See John 7: 37 – 39.

“It is finished” phrase is 3 words in the English, but it is one word in the original Greek, “tetelestai.” The word in the 1st century was written on business documents or receipts to indicate a bill had been paid in full. The meaning for us who believe on Jesus is our sin-debt is paid in full.

What does the sayings of Jesus do to your heart? Pause and express your heart to Him. Write a prayer response in a journal.
