April 2nd, 2024
Baptism is our new identity for a new life in Christ; This is our theme for the month of April. Jesus set the example for our identity by being baptized Himself. Let’s read Matthew’s Gospel chapter 3.
Zero in on Verse 15 & 16. Why was Jesus baptized in the Jordan river? What occurred when He was baptized? What was the significance?
Have you ever desired for heaven to open over you, giving you the blessing and favor from God? Notice heaven opened as Jesus pleased His Father’s heart by being baptized. His baptism would foreshadow His mission to come into the world – to die for our sins, be buried, and rise again on the third day.
Pause & Consider: Obedience to God is what opens heaven over your life.
Have you obeyed Jesus by being baptized since you believed in Him? If you have not taken the first step of obedience by being baptized in Jesus, plan to do so - don’t put it off to another time.
If you have been baptized since you believed in Jesus, sense the favor of the Father over your life as you often celebrate your new identity of new life - as one ‘buried with Christ in baptism, RAISED TO WALK in the newness of life.”
Let’s also read Romans chapter 8, verses 14 – 17. God has adopted us as his children. As you are baptized, let it be a reminder that God is crazy about you! You are His beloved child. He is pleased with you. He is making you new! The God of the universe celebrates you! Let these truths begin to redevelop your identity to strengthen you during trials. Begin to see yourself as God sees you! Today, spend time enjoying the joy of your Heavenly Father.
