Let’s keep walking with Abraham in faith as we prayerfully read Genesis chapter
14. What stands out from your reading as a highlight? How would you explain this
to a friend? What application can you make in your relationship with the Lord?
Let’s zoom into V. 18. As Abraham returns from battle to rescue Lot, he encounters
this mysterious figure: “Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine;
he was a priest to God Most High.” This king of Salem (peace) greets Abraham
with bread and wine (interesting.. does this remind you of anything about Jesus
with His disciples) and he blessed him. Who is this ‘priest to the Most High?’
To gain insight, Let’s reflect on Hebrews 7:22–25 “Jesus has also become the
guarantee of a better covenant……because he remains forever, he holds his
priesthood permanently. Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come
to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them.”
Pause for a fresh encounter with Jesus – The high priest Abraham encountered is
the One we call Savior and Lord. Jesus is our eternal priest (representing us
before God) and He is the eternal sacrifice for our sins which saves us forever!
What does this do to your heart? Write out a prayer to Jesus.
“Lord Jesus, as I recognize You as my eternal high priest who is eternal, I humbly
realize that I am saved from my sins today and forever. You will never lose Your
power or position. This moves my heart to

Amen.”
