Awaken Devo Day 2 - July 2

Today is Day 2 of “31 days of prayer for my nation”; let’s open God’s Word to 2 Chronicles
chapter 14. This is an interesting chapter; What stands out as a highlight to you? Any
application for your life?

Let’s zoom in to V.7 – “So he (King Asa) said to the people of Judah, ‘Let’s build these
cities and surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours
because we sought the Lord our God. We sought him and he gave us rest on every side.;
So they built and succeeded.” Why did King Asa say the land still belong to the people?
“Because we sought the Lord our God” i.e .they prayed on its behalf.

What are parts of our land (culture) we need to seek the Lord to remain ours as
Christians? – i.e. spread of the Gospel, church revitalization, sanctity of human life,
marriage between a man and woman, family flourishing, etc. .. Can you think of others?
Yesterday we reflected on 2 Chronicles 7:14; notice today this is 2 Chronicles 14:7....We
experience 2 Chronicles 14:7 by praying 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Let’s focus on interceding for ‘the land to remain ours’ – i.e. the ‘freedoms’ of our nation to
remain strong, for they are under assault.

Let us join together in a renewed pledge to ensure that our nation remains one nation
under God, where faith, family, and freedom flourish.

THANKS I Give thanks to the Father: Praise you, Father, that your hand was most
evident in the “birth” of our nation. Thank you that we still enjoy many of these freedoms of
divine origin even as we struggle to maintain them. Help us, Lord.

CONFESSION I Listen for the Holy Spirit’s prompting for confession: Forgive us,
Lord, as we have too often received your blessings and our freedoms in vain. At times, we
have turned to the government to do those things that we are called to do ourselves and for
others. Forgive us, as we have not based our priorities first and foremost on you and your
Word, then our families, neighbors, and country. Restore to my life your heart of loving
you and my “nearest ones” even as I have been loved by you (see 1 John 4:19; Matthew
22:37–40).

PETITION I Join Jesus in prayers of petition: Lord Jesus, even as you declare that it’s
the truth that sets free, might we fully embrace “thy word “as truth (see John 8:32; 17:17).
Even as you birthed marriage with divine intent, might it be true that the fidelity and
testimony of my marriage will be a witness of you and your love (see Ephesians 5:28–32).
Even as you have declared that children are gifts from the Lord, might I train and nurture
them to walk in your ways (see Psalm 127:3).

WORD I Proclaim promises from His Word: “Righteousness exalts a nation ...”
(Proverbs 14:34 ). Father, we humble ourselves to seek you and your righteousness;
restore to us the narrow walk in your ways; return to our nation a commitment to seek you
and your voice and to obey your Word in all the
affairs of life.
