Hopefully, you are beginning to ‘think Bible’ throughout your day; specifically, James chapter 4 as we read it again. Sincerely pray before you read, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” Write down any highlights from your reflection.
Let’s ZOOM INTO Vs.11 – 12 – “Don’t criticize one another, brothers and sisters. Anyone who defames or judges a fellow believer defames and judges the law. If you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?”
Ouch! This Scripture really hits home, doesn’t it? List a few reasons from the text why it is a bad idea to criticize, defame, or judge one another:
Who is the only One worthy to be the Judge? __________________________ V.12
Prayer Prompt: “Lord, please remove a critical spirit from me as it relates to (write names… maybe yourself)__________________________________. Help me to speak words that will build up and impart grace to others (words of appreciation, approval, encouragement, comfort, etc.), Amen”

- If your role is not as judge or critic of others, then what is your role? You are to “encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5: 11). See this as your role in your family, marriage, church, school, work, and friendships.
- Further study: See Matthew 7: 1 – 6 on what Jesus taught about being critical and judgmental of others.
