Back to the Basics Devo Day 25 - August 25

I can’t believe today is the culmination of our prayerful reading and deep reflection on the book of James. If time allows, read all 5 chapters of the book of James as a celebrative review of all the Lord is teaching us.

Let’s ZERO INTO Verses 19 & 20 of chapter 5. – “My brothers and sisters, if any among you strays from the truth, and someone turns him back, let that person know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”

Pause & Reflect on this text. (“Let the Word dwell richly in you” ):

• Recall a time when you ‘strayed from the truth.’ (Let’s be vulnerable… we all have veered from the straight and narrow path of Jesus at one time or another). 

Who did God use to turn you from the ‘error of your way?’ Complete this sentence prayer – “Lord, thank you for using __________________ when I went away from Your truth. Bless this one today. Amen.” (Text this person your thoughts of gratitude).

• Consider someone in your relational circles who is ‘straying from the truth.’ Allow Jesus’ compassion for this one to fill your heart. 

         Pray for them – “Father in heaven, my heart cares for _____________________ who has strayed from Your truth and is experiencing spiritual danger. I pray that You would use me to turn this one from error and experience Your unfailing love of forgiveness and deliverance. Help me to “speak truth in love” (Eph.4:15), for I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

The Vision of SBC is to “become people who fill the earth with the light and love of Jesus” as the waters cover the sea! The core value of “living His mission” allows us to become this kind of people. Today’s text is one we long to ‘do.’
