Let’s set our hearts on H.E.A.R. (ing) from the Lord as we prayerfully read the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5.
Write your responses to your H.E.A.R. prompts and discuss with a near one or group. Look for opportunities ‘to do the book’ in your daily traffic patterns.
Let’s ZERO INTO v. 13 - Jesus says to His disciples, "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”
What do you think Jesus’ meant for us to become “salt of the earth?” (preservative, fertilizer, flavor, etc.) ________________________________.
As we live in SW Florida, ‘salt’ is something we are all familiar with in our location as we look at the Gulf of Mexico. As you see the ocean water, pray for us as a church to ‘cover Sarasota’ with the salt of Jesus, His radiant light and redeeming love.
Interesting fun fact – ‘salt’ is used 47 times in the Bible.
Pause & Pray – to be a salty witness of Jesus today, creating a thirst for His living water. Pray for each member of our church family to ‘live on mission’ as salt and light for Jesus.
- H. – highlight – i.e. Prayerfully take time to highlight or underline the words or phrases that stick out most to you.
- E. – explain - Thoughtfully write out in your own words what you understand and why it’s significant.
- A. – apply – i.e. – consider ways this passage connects to your life.
- R. – respond – i.e. – prayerful response with your heart to the Word for transformation.
