Let’s set our hearts on H.E.A.R. (ing) from the Lord as we prayerfully read the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10.
Write your responses to your H.E.A.R. prompts and discuss with a near one or group. Look for opportunities ‘to do the book’ in your daily traffic patterns.
Let’s FOCUS on Jesus eating again in Vs. 38 – 42. Just like us, Jesus had friends. Siblings Lazarus, Mary and Martha were dear to him; no doubt he enjoyed getting together with them. Martha — ‘the hostess with the mostest’ — was working hard to prepare a good meal for Jesus.
When Martha complained about her sister, who was just sitting and listening to Jesus, she was probably surprised when he rebuked her. Essentially, he said that Mary’s choice to sit and listen to him was better than all the work she was doing.
The problem wasn’t the work. It was that she was so busy she was going to miss the purpose: spending time with Jesus.
Whether you’re having friends over for dinner or serving at church, make time to enjoy the people you’re serving. Consider not serving a five-course meal, because it’s the laughs and the meaningful moments that are most memorable.
THINK ABOUT IT...
- H. – highlight – i.e. Prayerfully take time to highlight or underline the words or phrases that stick out most to you.
- E. – explain - Thoughtfully write out in your own words what you understand and why it’s significant.
- A. – apply – i.e. – consider ways this passage connects to your life.
- R. – respond – i.e. – prayerful response with your heart to the Word for transformation.

THINK ABOUT IT...
- Are you too busy doing things for people to spend time with people?
- Ask the Lord who He would have you to invite for a meal or coffee. Be like Jesus – make people a priority.
