This is the Day the Lord has made! Let’s get ready for worship by prayerfully reflecting on 1 Corinthians chapter 11. Our sermon theme for the month of November is ONE, and today we will be focusing on we are ONE church.
Using the H.E.A.R. method, what are some words or phrases that are highlight to you? How would you explain to a friend? What application can you make to your life? What heart response can you have to God at the point of His Word?
‘Journal with God’ by writing your highlights, application, and prayer response down.
Let’s ZOOM into Vs. 26–29 – “ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes…..Let a person examine himself; in this way let him eat the bread and drink from the cup. For whoever eats and drinks without recognizing the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.”
This text speaks of our practice as a church family of participating in the observance of the Lord’s supper.
The church has two ordinances: baptism & the Lord’s supper.
The Lord’s supper is to be approached by each believer with a sense of personal examination and deep introspection of what one is about to remember.
The text warns of not partaking of the cup & bread in a manner worthy of the Lord.
PRAYER PROMPT (to get us started): “Father God, thank You for not withholding Your own Son but delivering Him up for us. As I approach eating bread and drinking the cup with the church, prepare my heart; I confess my sins. I desire to do so in a way to honor Jesus. As I think of His death for my sins, my heart is filled with ______________________________________. For I humbly pray, Amen.”
