Hope has a Name Devo Day 15 - December 14

Let’s prayerfully read and reflect on the gospel of Luke, chapter 1, verses 67 – 80, giving special attention to Vs. 76-80. Zechariah’s worship continues over the birth of his son, John; he turns toward confident hope of who his child will become and of what the future holds.

PAUSE & CONSIDER –
  • John the Baptist “will be called a ________________of the Most High” V. 76
  • John will _______ _____________ the Lord to prepare His ways. V.75. Can you think of ways John accomplished this task? _______________________________.

ZOOM INTO Vs. 78-79 – “Because of our God’s merciful compassion,
the dawn from on high will visit us  to shine on those who live in darkness
and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Have you ever approached the advent (arrival) of Jesus coming to earth as “God’s merciful compassion” shining light to dispel the darkness in our world and lives?

  • Think of ways Jesus has given light to you: ______________________________ (revelation, hope)
  • Reflect on how the sun ‘dawns’ bringing a new day; Jesus is the Sun of Righteousness who has risen with healing in His wings. On a cool morning in Sarasota, radiant sunshine brings warmth and hope for a new day.
  • What does this do to your heart? Write out a prayer of gratitude for how Jesus has brought warmth and meaning to you.

PRAYER PROMPT: Jesus, I worship You as the Sun of righteousness who has risen with healing in Your wings! My heart is filled with ____________________________________ toward you. I bless You for the spiritual warmth to my cold heart You have freely given me, for I humbly pray in Your name, Amen!
