Let’s prayerfully read & reflect on the Gospel Luke chapter 2, verses 1 – 20 (once again for meditation & even memorization), giving special attention to verse 19, “But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.”
THINK ABOUT IT – In the midst of all the excitement of the baby being born, the cattle mooing, the angels appearing with glory, the shepherds visiting, and the wise men journeying; Mary is doing what? -
- 9 months of supernatural pregnancy,
- the humble giving of birth in a manger,
- and the shepherds visit.
The antithesis of ‘hurry’ is ‘pondering’ – i.e. giving special thought to the Lord and the wonders of His love for you.
CHALLENGE – sit quietly in front of a Nativity of Christ and give special thought to the wonder of the Gospel of John chapter 3, verse 16. Write out a prayerful response of worship in response to your pondering of Jesus.
PRAYER PROMPT: Abba Father, I desire to become like Mary – slowing down to ‘treasure all these things’ in the birth of Your Son ‘in my heart.’ I stand in awe how You ______________________________________________________________________. Throughout this day, I want to give serious consideration to all You have done for me in the giving of Your one-of-a-kind Son, for I humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen!
THINK ABOUT IT – In the midst of all the excitement of the baby being born, the cattle mooing, the angels appearing with glory, the shepherds visiting, and the wise men journeying; Mary is doing what? -
- “treasuring up in her heart all these things”- she was more likely ‘silent’ (in contrast to the shepherds) & taking into account:
- 9 months of supernatural pregnancy,
- the humble giving of birth in a manger,
- and the shepherds visit.
- “Treasure” – means to keep something of value in a safe condition. (Psalm 119: 11 speaks of treasuring God’s Word in our heart).
- “Meditating on them” – this means Mary gave serious consideration to all that has occurred in the birth of her child, the Son of God.
