Hope has a Name Devo Day 20 - December 19

Let’s begin reading a new section of the Gospel of Luke chapter 2, verses 21 – 38 (we will read through this section several times; remember the goal of Bible intake is not the number of times we read the Bible, but allowing the Bible to read you.) Let’s give special attention to Verse 21 – 24.

  • V. 21 – What name is given to the Messiah, the Lord? – “he was named ____________.” – the Hebrew of His name is Yeshua, meaning the Lord saves. Why is this name so special? ______________________________________
  • V. 22 – What was the occasion of Joseph and Mary presenting the baby in the Temple? ________________________________________________________________________
  • Vs.23 – 24 – Consider the offering the couple made at the dedication of the baby Jesus:  “a pair of turtledoves or pigeons” – i.e. – this was the offering of a poor woman. The law stipulated that a lamb be offered, but if the woman could not afford a lamb then she could offer two turtledoves or pigeons (Lev 12:8)

PAUSE & CELEBRATE THE NAME OF JESUS, for
  • His is the only name who can save us! – Acts 4: 12
  • His name is higher than any other name! – Philippians 2: 9 – 11
  • His name has the power to do the impossible! – Luke 1: 37
  • His name heals and restores. – see Acts 3:16
  • His name gives hope! (Hope has a Name!) – Colossians 1:27

PRAYER PROMPT – “Heavenly Father, my soul celebrates the gift of Your One and Only Son, who was born of a woman, lived a life without sin, died as a perfect sacrifice for our sins, and rose again on the third day. I bless You that His name is JESUS! His name is special to me, because ___________________________________________________________ (write out your response), Amen and Amen!
