Let’s begin reading the Gospel of Luke chapter 2, verses 21 – 38, giving special attention to verses 25 – 32.
PAUSE & COSIDER Vs.29-30 when a person is ready to die.
Simeon held Jesus and praised God, “Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace,
as you promised. For my eyes have seen your salvation.”
A person is ready to die when one’s eyes of faith have seen the Lord’s salvation, JESUS. Hope has a name; what is it? Say it aloud, JESUS!
PRAYER PROMPT: “Lord, I want to be ready to die when my time comes. I confess that Jesus is my only hope of salvation and eternal life. I recognize that it is not by any good deeds or religious rituals that I can perform. Jesus and He alone can forgive me of my sins and give me new life. Thank you for the assurance of heaven when I die, for humbly pray in Jesus’ name, Amen!”
- Who is Simeon? What’s so special about him? V.25 – “This man was _________ & devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation.” – i.e. he was a hope-filled person!
- What special revelation from God did he receive? V.26 - “he would not see _________ before he saw the Lord’s Messiah.”
- How did he find Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus in the Temple? V.27 - “Guided by the ____________”
