Hope has a Name Devo Day 22 - December 21

Let’s begin reading the Gospel of Luke chapter 2, verses 21 – 38, giving special attention to verses 33 – 35.

IMAGINE BEING IN THIS TEXT OF SCRIPTURE WHEN THIS OCCURRED:

• V. 33 – sense the amazement of Mary and Joseph over all that was being said about the new-born son. 
• V. 34 – Simeon blessing the couple; this is the act of approval, which is a basic relational need we all have. (Is there someone you can give a blessing?) ______________” Lord, I sense _______________(name) could benefit from me speaking words of approval. Empower me of Your Spirit to speak to this one today, Amen!”
• V.34 – 35 – What difficult news did Simeon share with Mary? (Mary, did you know?)
• “This child is destined for the ______ & ___________ of many…” – i.e. true – everyone who rejects Jesus goes down & everyone who receives Jesus goes up in life and eternity. 
• “a ___________________ will pierce you own soul…..” ; When do you think this occurred for Mary? ___________________________________. 

PRAYER PROMPT – “Father in heaven, just as a sword pierced through Mary’s soul, so it pains me to consider the baby Jesus would grow to become the man whose hands & feet would be nailed to the cross for my sins. My heart is moved with _________________________________as I think of this, for I humbly pray, Amen.”
