Now Is The Time Devotional - January 7

Let’s prayerfully read & reflect on Malachi chapter 1, focusing on  6 – 14. What sin were the people guilty of committing? What promise of God’s name is made? How might this apply to your worship of the Lord, the one true living God?

LET’S ZOOM into V. 11 - “My name will be great among the nations, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Incense and pure offerings will be presented in my name in every place because my name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord of Armies.
“My Name” – speaks of God’s Person and Presence. Jesus taught us to pray – “Our Father who is in heaven, Your name be honored as holy.”

What aspects of God’s name cause you awe and wonder? ________________.

Stop and notice how great the Lord’s name is in Creation. Confess aloud the ways His greatness is displayed : ex. - “Lord, You are great as I reflect on the sunrise; Your power is clearly seen.” “Lord, You are great as I reflect on ____________________”

Pause to consider how great the Lord’s name is in salvation. “Lord, Your name is great as I consider how You rescued me from sin by _______________________” Spend some extended time thinking of Jesus’ death for your sin & resurrection to give you new life.

Pray the Vision of Sarasota Baptist will be fulfilled “becoming people who fill the earth with the light and love of Jesus.”

“Incense and pure offerings” are representative of our prayers and adoration to the Lord. He is pleased with our hearts drawing near to Him. This reminds us that worship is to be focused on the Lord, not on personal preferences or desires.

PRAYER PROMPT: “Heavenly Father, as I consider the greatness of Your name, I long to give you the best offerings of ___________________________________ (i.e. – early morning devotions, positive thoughts on His Word, best of my worship). Jesus paid it all, and it is all to Him that I owe, for I humbly pray, Amen.”
