This is the day the Lord has made; let’s rejoice and be glad that we can worship together at SBC. Let’s prayerfully read Malachi chapter 2, giving special attention to vs. 10 – 17.
What stands out to you from today’s reading?
Let’s ask several questions to help us to understand the text more deeply:
Vs. 10, 14 – What covenant were the people guilty of breaking? (hint: circle the word covenant in these verses). ___________________________________________________.
Circle each time the word “treacherously” appears in the text. Treacherous means a willful betrayal of a confidence, truth or truth.
Notice V. 11 – the men were guilty of “marrying the daughter of a foreign god” & V.16 “divorcing their wives” – their marriage partners by covenant.
This text is expressing God’s heart throughout Scripture for healthy, growing relationships where he is at the center. Marriage is a covenant agreement between a man and a woman to God to remain faithful throughout life.
If you or your family has experienced the hurt of divorce, express your hurt to the Lord to experience the miracle of Matthew 5: 4 – “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
If you are not yet married & desire a future spouse, pray for the Lord to bring the one He chooses into your life, asking Him for discernment to build a marriage that will last.
If you are married, pray for the Spirit of God to fill and strengthen your relationship with the fruit of His Spirit; pray for unhealed hurts and unresolved conflict to be healed. Pray through until a breakthrough. Pray for enduring love to characterize your marriage.
PRAYER PROMPT: Heavenly Father, I humbly call out to You for the relationship with _____________________________. I recognize Your design for healthy relationships that glorify You, and I bring the challenge of ___________________________ to You, for I pray in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
CONSIDER THIS – The greatest witness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a thriving marriage and a spiritually flourishing home. Let’s pray the light and love of Jesus will shine through our families.
